Blog Income & Traffic Report – April 2017

I’m officially going to publish an income & traffic report every 6 months. More frequently than that and I feel like it’s more of a chore than something I, myself, want to see. But when I can look back over a half year, I’m better able to reflect on my blog’s growth.

I started blogging in October 2014 – so I’ve been at this game for 2 and a half years now! I think starting a blog is much like starting a restaurant – 90% of them fail. I’ve followed a fair number of bloggers that have petered off over the years. I’m proud to say that I am still here, chug-chugging along. I can’t predict what the future will hold, but I know that as long as I love what I do, then I’m happy to keep doing it.

Amazon CPM Ads: $56.29 – Earnings have dropped for Amazon CPM Ads. I think it was higher when the program first started to lure us in. But now it’s looking pretty dismal. I just need to get around to changing my ads set up.

Google AdSense: $25.58 – Google AdSense is my backup for when my Amazon ads don’t fill. I’ll probably change my ads back to Google Adsense. What I really need is a good ad network to sign up for! The problem with the higher paying ad networks is that they dictate ad placement. I really hate ads in the middle of an article so I would never want it in my own blog.

Amazon Associates: $1,138.69 – Oh, Amazon, what a love/hate relationship I have with thee! As an affiliate blogger, you call all the shots. But as a consumer, you are one of my favorite places to purchase items from.

Unfortunately, due to Amazon’s new commission structure, effective March of this year, my fees have been significantly reduced. It just goes to show that blog income can change at any time and it is important to diversify your streams of income.

Affiliate Window: $97.92 – I use Affiliate Window for Etsy links.

Direct Affiliate Sales: $3,933.47

Total Income: $5,251.95

On a side note, in my first report, back in December 2014, I made $15.46! I still remember writing my first report, feeling so happy that I made any money at all.

Unfortunately, from this point forward, I will no longer include an Expenses section.

My husband, the accountant, freaks out that I oversimplify my expenses when writing these reports. The problem is that the more my blog grows, the harder it is to keep track of all my expenses. I have to remember that I’m basically a business owner so anything blogging related is an expense, e.g., something as minute as meals/transportation when I’m at a blogging event.

Since he’s the one that helps me tally up my actual expenses, I think it’s best that I not try to take stabs at what they are for the month lest I get in trouble with Uncle Sam.

  • Total unique visitors: 17,241
  • Total page views: 27,649

I am proud to say that my traffic has continued to grow at a decent rate. I know, I know. Every time I write a report, I say something along the lines of: I never imagined my blog would grow to this point. But, really, it’s true!

I mean, it definitely has something to do with Google and rankings and SEO. But I’m not an SEO expert or anything like that.

Regardless, I love that I can blog about the things I am passionate about, share my experiences with others, and, most importantly, help others.

I’m a blogger but I don’t consider myself to be a full-time blogger, i.e., one that posts on a regular schedule. I’ve found that my desire to write something ebbs and flows. I was on a dry spell for awhile but, right now, I feel like I’m getting my groove back again. 🙂

Above all, I’ve come to realize that I shouldn’t try to force things. I like that I’ve gotten comfortable enough to write only when I really want to write about something. There was a period of time when I was stressing out about not posting frequently enough.

But, I figure, if you’ve stuck by me this long, you probably have a sense of who I am by now.

This isn’t my full-time job, this is what I do for fun, as my passion and my hobby.

I found that when I previously set serious goals, I just felt a lot of pressure to accomplish it. (I’m talking about me, personally. Other bloggers do treat blogging as a full-time job and do amazingly well.)

So I guess my goal is just to keep doing what I love, no pressure. Thanks for reading!
